Peter Jackson a diffusé une première vidéo en direct du plateau du tournage de The Hobbit. Dans les salles en décembre 2012 et décembre 2013, les deux films ont pour acteurs principaux Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Rob Kazinsky, Aidan Turner, Graham McTavish, John Callen, Stephen Hunter, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, James Nesbitt, Adam Brown, Cate Blanchett, Ken Stott, Sylvester McCoy, Mikael Persbrandt, Ryan Gage, Jed Brophy, William Kircher, Saoirse Ronan, Elijah Wood et Bret McKenzie.
